GoDaddy and their Domains By Proxy Scam

GoDaddy NoDaddy Logo

LA Snark has been freed from the clutches of GoDaddy. Interneting seems a little easier today.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that a couple of the domains I purchased on GoDaddy were about to expire. I decided the time was right to leave GoDaddy and park my domains elsewhere.

Depending on your level of web savvy, GoDaddy is probably one or more of the following:

  • The company that you throw money at so your website stays online
  • The most confusing website you’ve ever seen
  • A scammy company that relies on user ignorance to overcharge for low quality service
  • The website where Danica Patrick never takes her clothes off no matter what their Super Bowl ads say
  • SOPA flip floppers
  • An elephant hunter and his gang of frustratingly ignorant customer support representatives

Seeing GoDaddy as any of the above is completely understandable. You might hear your “techie friend” complaining about GoDaddy alongside products like Adobe Flash and Internet Explorer, but until you decide that you would like to change anything on your domain or hosting account, you may be unaware of why people in the know follow a strict “friends don’t let friends use GoDaddy” rule.

Why did I want to move LASnark.com away from GoDaddy?

  1. Every one of my “techie friends” has told me to do so for the past 7 years. As I consider myself to be somewhat of a “techie friend” myself, I felt I should lead by example.
  2. GoDaddy.com is a SPAMMY MESS. Getting anything done means navigating your way through a field of upsell landmines before you reach the checkout. YES MAYBE I SHOULD BUY LASNARK.NYC, YES, GREAT IDEA, GODADDY.
  3. Their chat support team will rush you off the line so you can go off and learn that all of their advice was useless and you have to wait in the 20 minute queue to explain your entire issue to them from the beginning.
  4. They just don’t get it. One second, GoDaddy is posting on Facebook about how all companies should have an 800 number, the next they’re telling me to call their 480 number for customer support.
  5. Their whole tone is a little, gauche.

My specific issue went like this:

Since I purchased “domain privacy” for my two domains, I needed to contact a company called Domains By Proxy in order to turn the privacy off before I would be able to find the epp codes that would be necessary to transfer my domains to another registrar. That seemed easy enough.

Apparently not. Domains By Proxy will only handle customer support through email, meaning if you have any urgent changes for your domains, you will need to wait around until they get a chance to email you. An additional problem with this is, they apparently don’t understand how to read emails, and after 6 hours of waiting, they will email you the same questions that you have already answered.

The other part of the issue that had me bouncing back and forth between GoDaddy support and Domains By Proxy, was that I had apparently entered a name in the “business” field of the sign up form when I originally registered these domains, and they were unwilling to give me access to my account until I could verify this “business name.”

A couple issues with this:

  • These were not real businesses. I entered these fields as if they were title fields so I could organize my domains. I was new to this domain registering business at the time. Why is it so easy to enter a business name if it has the ability to completely lock your account when you fail to remember this business name? One of the GoDaddy support reps told me that she has been trying to get GoDaddy to fix this “for years” but they don’t seem to care.
  • I signed up for one of these domains in 2001. That was a million internet years ago. I no longer have access to the AOL email that I used when signing up. Nor do I have access to my Comcast email from my 2007 signup of LASnark.com.

This is when the hilarity began to ensue. I had many, many chats and phone calls with both GoDaddy and Domains By Proxy. In total this ended up taking FOUR DAYS to figure out. I know this blog isn’t the LA Times, but if it were the LA Times, I really believe that their site would have been down for FOUR DAYS while these two companies passed the buck back and forth to one another.

Of course, GoDaddy owns Domains By Proxy. GoDaddy reps will tell you that “While we’re under the same umbrella, we’re not the same company” and “We don’t have the ability to call them, all their work is done over email.” However, all Domains By Proxy reps will tell you “No that’s not true, we all work for GoDaddy.”

I chatted with a GoDaddy support supervisor named Adrian for about 5 hours total over two days. He tried to get me off the line every chance he got, telling me that he could not help me, even though I explained the following to him, over and over and over:

  1. I signed up for these domains through GoDaddy.
  2. I have an issue with the domains I purchased through GoDaddy.
  3. I am unable to receive verification emails from Domains By Proxy as I no longer have access to my AOL and Comcast emails and I’ve already guessed every “business name” I can remember using.
  4. GoDaddy owns Domains By Proxy, I have contacted GoDaddy support, I would like support with my issue. Domains By Proxy as a company has become an issue.

Adrian‘s response, over and over, was that he was unable to contact any member of the Domains By Proxy team by phone, in person, or otherwise, as they do not work together and Domains By Proxy only handles support through email.

Here are the suggestions that Adrian and his team gave me:

  • Sign up for AOL and ask them to retrieve my confirmation email from 2001.
  • Sign up for Comcast and ask them to retrieve my confirmation email from 2007.
  • Sit around and wait for another email from Domains By Proxy.
  • Wait for my domains to expire and then try to purchase them when they become available for purchase
  • Renew both of my domains through GoDaddy so they don’t expire before we figure this out.

Well, one of my domains did expire. I had felt that a few days would be more than enough time to figure out how to transfer my domains to new new registrar, but I was unaware of GoDaddy’s Domains By Proxy trap. Apparently there are quite a few people that have been screwed by this internet crime ring.

I decided I needed to take the “squeaky wheel gets the greasin'” approach with GoDaddy. I’d been reasonably patient and polite, but I felt that GoDaddy’s unwillingness to help me communicate with a company that they own was a poor customer experience, and actually pretty rude. I took to GoDaddy’s Twitter and Facebook, responding to their marketing messages with questions about the status of my issue. Having spent a lot of years on the other side of this situation, I knew this would make things happen quickly. Big companies don’t like being embarrassed on their social properties, and most companies are aware that erasing user comments is a big “no no” in social media land. Also, the social media team usually has access to someone with more authority than the customer support team.

GoDaddy’s Twitter person waited a day and then responded to me from their @GoDaddyHelp account, which to me is a social media misstep, albeit a common one. If I complain to @Whoever, I want a response from @Whoever, not @WhoeverHelp. That is a “Psst, let’s talk over here where no one will see us” move rather than the “Sure! We can help you!” response that I would prefer.

Well guess what, Adrian. The person working @GoDaddyHelp was able to call and get right through to the Domains By Proxy team and sort this all out within minutes. Adrian refused to help me himself, opting to sit in a chat room with me for 5 hours rather than pick up a phone and call his coworkers. It’s cool, we had some good chats.

After receiving some assistance from the Twittersphere, I was able to successfully transfer both of my domains over to Namecheap. They seem to be widely recommended and their website is simple. Plus, their chat support seems to be willing to help, and that is important, because this was not helpful:

You’re chatting with Adrian.
Jon
Hello Adrian!
Adrian
Hello Jon, I am a supervisor here at Go Daddy.
Adrian
I understand you are having an issue with a domains by proxy account?
Jon
Yes, a lot of issues apparently.
Adrian
Please explain.
Jon
Again?
Jon
ok
Jon
I’m trying to get the authorization codes for 2 of my domains, LASnark.com and xxxx.com. I cannot do this without DomainsByProxy releasing my login information to me. They will not do so because when I signed up I entered a business name. This was not a real business, only the name of my blog, LA Snark. They have told me that LA Snark is not the name of my business and that I should check the name of my business in my GoDaddy order history. I found the receipt and it said that LA Snark was indeed the business on file for both domain names. Since then I have not heard back from DomainsByProxy and my site has since expired and is inaccessible.
Jon
After that I did receive a response telling me that I registered under the name xxxx (which i had already guessed as a business id and they told me it was incorrect)
Adrian
I do understand Jon.
Adrian
After reviewing the account it seems that we have attempted to reset the information for the account and that since one of the domains are expired a change of account is not possible.
Jon
Right. It WAS possible when I started my email conversation with support. But during these back and forth emails, it has expired
Jon
I need the EPP codes for LASnark.com and xxxx.com
Adrian
At this time the EEP code would be sent to the email address that is associated with the domains by proxy account.
Adrian
The domain would also not be able to be removed from our system unless the privacy is removed
Adrian
Is there any certain reason as to why you don’t want to renew the domains at Go Daddy?
Jon
Yes, obviously this very problem is the reason I do not want to renew with godaddy
Adrian
I do understand. So what you can do it try to continue with domains by proxy to try to gain access or you can try to place a backorder with another company and try to get the domain once it is released to the public.
Jon
I don’t understand
Adrian
At this time there is nothing I can do except give you recommendations on how to move forward.
Adrian
We are not able to remove the privacy you have on the account.
Jon
I paid GoDaddy for these domains. Now I am unable to access the codes necessary to transfer these domains, because they are being held hostage by a company that GoDaddy owns.
Jon
I am losing money every day my site is not up
Adrian
You can download the codes from within the account however, the transfer will be declined as you have privacy on the domain.
Jon
Right, i think we all understand that
Adrian
The codes is not an issue, we can get you the codes you are requesting.
Jon
I need the privacy removed. I needed it removed 3 days ago.
Adrian
I would not be able to do that, you will need to continue to work with our domains by proxy department to get that completed.
Jon
I am trying to work with your domains by proxy department, but clearly that is not working. I need a second solution.
Adrian
You can do a few things, you can renew the domain so you do not lose the domain. If you do renew the domain and then remove the domains by proxy you can get a refund on that as well once the privacy is removed. You can let the domains expire and then try to recover them once they are released to the public.
Adrian
Those are other solutions rather than trying to work with our domains by proxy department.
Jon
So you’re telling me the solution is to give GoDaddy more money or risk losing my domains.
Adrian
I am trying to give you a solution other than trying to work with the domains by proxy team. I can only try to give advice as I am not able to move forward with a lot in the situation.
Jon
I give you money. You remove the privacy. Then, you give me back ALL of my money that I spent to renew 2 domains?
Adrian
We can give you a refund on the domains by proxy if you do cancel it within 45 days of the 1 year renewal on the domain.
Jon
If I pay to renew the two domains with GoDaddy, do I get that money back?
Adrian
The renewal of the domains would not be possible, but you can take the additional time to another registrar after 45 days of the renewal.
Adrian
No, the only thing that would be eligible would be the domains by proxy.
Jon
So I would NOT be refunded for renewing my domains?
Adrian
No you would not.
Jon
Why?
Adrian
Domains are only eligible if they are canceled before 45 days once they are renewed for a year. However, since you want to transfer them it would not put them in an eligible status to be refunded
Jon
I’m very confused and getting nowhere closer to a solution.
Jon
Let’s start over
Adrian
Do you have a phone number that I can contact you at? It may be easier.
Jon
I’d like the privacy removed from LASnark.com and xxxx.com. Then, I’d like to transfer these domains. I’ve been paying GoDaddy since 2000 so this should not be a problem.
Adrian
In order to transfer the domains the privacy needs to be removed.
Adrian
So let’s say that you renew the domains.
Adrian
With the privacy on the domains.
Jon
I need the privacy removed, which apparently it cannot because I entered a business name when I registered the domains
Jon
I have told DBP this and still, no login information
Jon
I need this login information to remove the privacy so that I can get on with my life
Jon
Please tell me how to get this login information without waiting for these people in arizona to message me back
Jon
I have contacted every one of your phone numbers and social media accounts
Jon
Let’s figure this out already
Adrian
Have you checked old emails or any information from domains by proxy?
Adrian
The username is sent via email.
Adrian
Did you ever have this information?
Jon
They would have been sent in 2001 and 2007, no I do not have those emails.
Jon
I have 4 possible customer numbers and a bunch of guesses for a username
Adrian
I would not be able to see those or even try to access them.
Adrian
What information is domains by proxy asking you for?
Jon
Thank you very much for submitting the photo ID. Also, you have corrected identified xxxx as the account holder. Please provide business ID for xxxx or explain why one cannot be provided. Thanks again!
Jon
I have explained this OVER AND OVER
Adrian
What do they say after you explain to them? Do they need more information?
Jon
They wait 4 hours and then respond with the same question
Jon
That is the cycle I am trapped in. 3 days now
Jon
Meanwhile my main website has gone down.
Adrian
Then my recommendation would be to try to find the username or wait for the domains to drop to the public. Or you can renew the domain and then do an account change.
Jon
Try to find the username from an email I no longer have access to?
Jon
Risk losing my site because someone else scoops up my domain name?
Adrian
Those are the solutions I have for you Jon. As I have stated we do not have access to domains by proxy and can only give recommendations on what steps you would want to take.
Jon
Yet I never went to DomainsByProxy to sign up for anything.
Jon
I went to GoDaddy.com to register my domain.
Jon
And now I am talking to GoDaddy support.
Jon
Please remove the privacy from those domains.
Adrian
You will need to go through Domainsbyproxy.com in order to have that completed Jon. As I have stated I am unable to do that.
Jon
Please let me speak to your supervisor now.
Adrian
I am the supervisor on the floor. If you would like to talk to another supervisor you are more than free to call in. However, Jon please understand that this is an issue that you will need to work with domainsbyproxy.com or you can use the solutions that I have provided.
Jon
DomainsByProxy is owned by GoDaddy, no?
Jon
I have never interfaced with DomainsByProxy.
Adrian
It is apart of the umbrella that Go Daddy is apart of. However, we do not have access to their customer accounts.
Jon
It is a poor user experience for the customer when the company used to register a domain passes the buck to another company, which they own.
Jon
Do you have a legal department contact?
Adrian
I do not however, you are free to see our terms of service or even review the domainsbyproxy.com terms of service.
Jon
Great
Jon
now I just need the privacy lifted from the two domains that I listed earlier
Jon
I will wait.
Adrian
Jon if this chat is not moving forward I will need to close it. I do apologize and hope you do understand. I can wait for up to 5 minutes if you would like to cover other subjects.
Jon
Well i expect it to move forward
Jon
since I paid you money, and all
Jon
yet i do not have access to my products
Adrian
I would recommend that you do contact domains by proxy to help you find the correct solution as you do not see my solutions to fit your needs as a business owner.
Jon
?
Adrian
I am sorry Jon I do not understand.
Adrian
There is nothing more I can do to help in this situation I do apologize.
Adrian
I have not heard from you for a few moments. Are you still with me?
Jon
Yes still here
Jon
on the phone with DBP now
Adrian
No problem. Is there anything else I can assist you with via chat today Jon?
Jon
oh yes
Jon
I still don’t have access to my site
Jon
Apparently DBP is going to unlock my account so I can finally get into it
Jon
When I can access my DBP account, I can remove privacy for both of those domains
Jon
Will I then be able to access the EPP codes for both domains?
Adrian
Yes, I do have steps you can follow if you would like to have them?
Jon
SURE
Adrian
To Get an Authorization Code via Download
Log in to your Account Manager.
Next to Domains, click Launch.
Select your domains. From the More menu, select Export List.
Name your list. Then, for Select list type, select All My Domains.
Click Next.
Select your data columns, including Authorization Codes, and then click Next.
Do the following, and then click Finish:
Select file type — Select the type of file you want to export: CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XML (Extensible Markup Language).
Select Compression — Select GZ to create the file in compressed format. Otherwise, select None.
Adrian
I can also email those if you would like?
Jon
sure thing
Adrian
Is xxxx.company@gmail.com a good email address?
Jon
I have never seen that email in my life
Adrian
I do apologize
Adrian
Is xxxx@gmail.com a good email?
Jon
yes that one looks better
Adrian
I have sent that information to you.
Jon
great
Adrian
What else can I help you with at this time Jon?
Jon
You can just hang out until this is all resolved
Adrian
Jon as we do have other customers to assist that would not be possible. However, if you do run into more issue you are welcome to contact us back.
Jon
Well I still require assistance, and my checkbook tells me that I’m a customer.
Adrian
What can I help you with? If there is nothing that needs immediate attention I can give you an email address that you can contact us at if you do need help.
Jon
Oh
Jon
I’d like the EPP codes from my domains please
Adrian
You can use the steps I did provide or if you are in the account you would want to go into the domain manager.
Jon
I clicked them to have them sent to my email, but they did not appear
Adrian
You will want to download them. When you have domains by proxy and no access to the email address you will have to use the download steps provided in the steps I did provide.
Jon
I don’t see “Expired Domains” as it says in your instructions
Adrian
What steps are you following and what is the step you are currently on?
Jon
i have attempted to have my code emailed and it still says (LASNARK.COM@domainsbyproxy.com)
Adrian
Those are not the steps we talked about.
Jon
well i followed the steps in your email and that’s where it got me
Adrian
You will need to follow the steps regarding getting the authorization code via download.
Adrian
Do you see where it says: Getting an Authorization Code via Download
Adrian
Those are the steps you need to follow.
Jon
Okay I am waiting on that email now
Adrian
For what?
Jon
Okay I have received the download email
Adrian
Happy to hear that Jon. Then once you cancel the privacy you can start the transfer process of the domains to another registrar.
Adrian
Are you still with me Jon?
Jon
Is this what the authorization codes look like?
Jon
xxxx
Jon
xxxx
Jon
That doesn’t seem right
Adrian
It can yes, I am not able to confirm them.
Adrian
Authorization codes are unique and made up of different characters.
Jon
Now that I have these codes, can I start the process of moving to another registar?
Adrian
Yes, once the privacy is removed. However, if you would like to start shopping around you are more than free to do so.
Jon
I’ve chosen a place.
Jon
How do I get the privacy removed?
Adrian
You will need to access the domains by proxy account and then remove the protection. I do have an article I can send to you.
Jon
oh great, this article will tell me how to access the domains by proxy account?
Adrian
I did send the information. It will tell you how to access and cancel the privacy.
Jon
it sounds so simple
Adrian
Was there anything else I can assist you with today Jon?
Jon
It seems my privacy has not been removed yet and I am still unable to access my owned domains.
Adrian
Then you will want to contact domains by proxy to make sure the lock has been removed from the account.
Jon
Oh good, I just did that. Unfortunately, they apparently are unable to understand my emails.
Adrian
I would recommend trying to contact them again. Is there anything else I can help you with in the Go Daddy account?
Jon
Yes, I need access to the domains I have there
Adrian
At Go Daddy?
Jon
Is that where I purchased the domains?
Adrian
If you are in the account you can see the domains there. If you are referring to the domains by proxy account you will need to contact them as I do not have access to that account.
Jon
I don’t think I have a domains by proxy account, I never signed up for one
Adrian
Jon we are going in circles. If this conversation is not moving forward I will need to end this chat.
Jon
You can hang up on me, I will add that to the post.
Adrian
Is there anything else I can assist with at this time Jon?
Jon
Yes, if you could help me get my website back up, the one I have registered with GoDaddy, that would be great.
Adrian
Yeah I can do that.
Jon
Unless of course you’ve sold my information to a third party company, which GoDaddy owns, and you’d like to pass the buck to them.
Adrian
To renew the domains it will be $85.78
Adrian
I do have a credit card on file.
Adrian
Would you like to use that to renew the domains?
Jon
Definitely not sir :)
Adrian
It ends in xxxx.
Adrian
Then at this time I would not be able to help you get the sites back up.
Adrian
That was for a 2 year renewal as well.
Jon
Well if you could help me pack them up nicely so I can find a friendlier home, it would be much appreciated.
Adrian
I have given you the information you have requested. However, for $42.89 we can keep you here for another year? :)
Jon
Sounds like I can move it elsewhere for $22 total
Jon
both domains
Adrian
You are free to do that.
Jon
I have been trying to do so for 3 days
Adrian
I would then try to talk to the new company you are trying to move the domains to and see what steps the also need you to complete. On our end we need you to remove the privacy and then you are good to go to a new home.
Adrian
However, we can extend your stay at Go Daddy if you would like?
Jon
I have spoken to the other company, and they need this DomainsByProxy mess cleaned up before I can transfer my domains.
Adrian
You will then need to keep trying to contact them or we can renew the domains for one year at $42.89 if you would like to keep the domains at Go Daddy.
Jon
It seems there should be someone at GoDaddy that can talk to the people at DomainsByProxy and get this cleared up rather easily.
Jon
I would love to talk to that person
Adrian
The department only has contact via email regarding claims.
Jon
I was told by DomainsByProxy that “that department” would email me before 5pm with access to my DBP. That did not happen as I expected.
Jon
There are humans working there right?
Adrian
I think so. I have never met them.
Jon
One human from GoDaddy calls their human partners at Domains By Proxy and this all gets sorted out and we all take a nap.
Adrian
However, I do know people work there.
Jon
Let’s clear this up Adrian! This is a ridiculous hassle for all involved and it has removed any level of respect I ever had for GoDaddy
Adrian
What would you like to clear up Jon? Are you confused on how to move forward? Would you like me to help you renew the domains? Would you like me to show you the solutions I have provided?
Jon
yes!
Jon
I am confused on how to move forward
Adrian
You will need to email domains by proxy.
Jon
You’ve told me to contact DomainsByProxy, which I have done several times, and that is not working
Adrian
Or
Adrian
you can wait for the domains to expire and wait for them to be released to the public.
Adrian
You can also think about renewing the domains.
Adrian
The best bet for you and the domains would be to work with domains by proxy to see if they can get this worked out.
Jon
1. Domains By Proxy is not responding to me.
Jon
2. If I let the domains expire, someone else could grab them
Jon
3. Why would I give GoDaddy more money when their customer service has offered me no solutions?
Adrian
Those are the solutions I have for you Jon. I am sorry they do not fit your standards. However, those are the ones we do have for you.
Jon
My standards?
Adrian
Well at this time the domains have not been paid for, but I can help you renew the domains if you would like?
Jon
They are in my list of domains
Jon
I see them there
Jon
I would like to transfer them
Jon
Between you and your umbrella company, you can figure this out.
Adrian
Then you will need to remove the domains by proxy.
Adrian
At this time there is nothing more I can do however, you are more than welcome to contact domains by proxy to try to gain access to this account.
Jon
So you are officially holding my domains for ransom. Yes?
Adrian
No, however at this time there is nothing more I can do however, you are more than welcome to contact domains by proxy to try to gain access to this account.
Jon
Oh I have
Jon
I would like to contact this umbrella company that sits over both
Jon
what is the best contact there?
Adrian
We do not have a one central company for both or a contact for them I do apologize.
Jon
Adrian
Jon
fo’ real brah?
Jon
What would you do in my situation? After you’ve already waited for DomainsByProxy to figure this out for 3 days
Adrian
To be honest, I would renew the domains. You are wasting more time and money trying to move forward when there is nothing we can do for outside of what I told you above. This is not as a Go Daddy employee either this is as a person who values their. I am not saying you don’t, but I am just giving you my 2 cents.
Jon
But, you see how this looks like a ransom note, right? Pay us or risk losing the sites you’ve had registered with us for 7 years
Jon
?
Adrian
I understand I do.
Adrian
But you are coming to the wrong people to get a solution with getting the privacy removed.
Jon
I’d gladly re-register if it was 100% refundable and I could transfer afterward
Adrian
If I could do it I would.
Jon
The right people seem to be unreachable
Adrian
I mean come on we have been talking for almost 3 hours.
Jon
3 days I’ve been working on this
Adrian
Have you tried to look for promo codes?
Jon
No, what is this 3rd hour genius idea?
Adrian
To get the privacy cheaper?
Jon
If you renewed the 2 domains without privacy, how much would that cost? And then, would I then be able to transfer these domains?
Adrian
I am just saying you are trying to get a solution from a company that has no control of the domainsbyproxy.com account you have.
Adrian
It would be 22.91 at the special rate you have. Yes the domains are transferrable however, know that the years can be removed if you transfer them within 45 days.
Adrian
To be honest right now you are going against a clock with the domains. If they get past 18 days more fees get added and then even if you get the privacy removed they can be locked and not eligible for a transfer.
Adrian
I have not heard from you for a few moments. Are you still with me?
Jon
yes
Adrian
So what would you like to do?
Adrian
I will be honest Jon those are the things I can do with you, if none of these work for you then you will want to work with domains by proxy.
Adrian
I have not heard from you for a few moments. Are you still with me?
Jon
Wow
Adrian
Jon please reply so I can make sure you are still trying to work with me on the situation on hand, if not I will need to end this chat as it is idle.
Jon
A DBP rep is telling me now that GoDaddy is the same company, they can access my GoDaddy information, and you should be able to help me
Adrian
Jon that is not possible as we do not have access to the accounts.
Adrian
Is there anything else I can assist with today Jon?
Jon
Well “Charis” at DBP tells me you should be able to handle it, so that’s what you can assist me with.
Jon
It seems the DBP team has packed up and gone home without resolving this issue
Adrian
Jon I am not going to play a he said she said type of game. We can use one of the solutions I have provided or we can end this chat.
Jon
Oh this is a game
Jon
I’m glad one of us is enjoying this
Adrian
Jon I can help you renew the domains if you would like. However, I do not have access to the domains by proxy information.
Adrian
If you would like to renew the domains we can get the domains active again.
Adrian
Would you like to do that?
Jon
So strange that they say the opposite.
Jon
What’s your last name, Adrian?
Adrian
I am not able to give out that information. However, my last initial is G.
Jon
G works
Jon
So listen, I’m going to sit here until this is resolved. Again, you can feel free to hang up on me if you’re comfortable with how you left things with a paying customer.
Adrian
If we are not going to move forward with this chat then I would need to end this chat.
Jon
do what you need to do. i have not received a solution to the issue i began chatting about, however
Adrian
At this time Jon you will need to contact domains by proxy to try to get the privacy removed from the domain. Or you can use a solution that I did provide above. If you would like to renew the domain we can always assist with that.
Adrian
However as this chat has not moved forward we will need to end the chat unless you have a different issue you need assistance with?
Jon
I still have the same issue
Jon
Adrian G?
Jon
I’ll go with Adrian Q to anonymize you a bit.
Adrian
No problem! Best of luck with the article

As I have nothing else to do until my websites are back up. I’m even going to ignore my wife and family until these websites are back up. GoDaddy is ruining lives over here.
Jon
No I still require assistance
Adrian
Is this regarding something else or the domains by proxy issue?
Jon
It’s regarding the domains I purchased via Godaddy
Adrian
I can help you renew the domains if you would like however, I am not able to remove the privacy.
Adrian
Is there anything in the account aside from the domain privacy issue I can assist you with today?
Jon
Actually I need to get the privacy removed from my godaddy domains so that I may transfer them
Adrian
Jon as this conversation is not moving forward, I will be ending the chat. Have a wonderful night.

Again, after watching Adrian type over and over that he did not have the ability to contact Domains By Proxy, GoDaddy’s Twitter person was able to solve this almost immediately. Great stuff.

Feel free to send me a message if you’re having trouble getting away from GoDaddy. I may be able to offer some assistance. Really, I just want an excuse to get back in that chat room.
