First appearing on the map in 2004, Chicago band Maps & Atlases (Dave Davison, Erin Elders, Shiraz Dada (awesome name), and Chris Hainey) add a cool, polyrhythmic angle to 2014 indie rock. Think Vampire Weekend/Alt-J, but with a beard.
Stars of my Sunday morning brunch playlist, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have released a new single called James Dean (Jr. Jr.?) and have expanded their North American fall tour to include a stop at Los Angeles’ Regent Theater. We should go. I’ll make eggs in a ramekin.
Bay Area indie hip-hop artist K.Flay will perform at the Echo this Saturday, October 3rd.
K.Flay has become one of indie hip-hop’s most intriguing underground artists. She’s been profiled/featured by everyone from Rolling Stone and the NY Times to Elle among many many others (Now LA Snark!.) She started writing and performing while pursuing a double major at Stanford University in the mid-2000’s and quickly garnered a lot of buzz with local hip-hop shows and a string of EPs, mixtapes and singles.
Her last EP, What If It is, was released on RCA Records. For Life As A Dog, K.Flay took her career back into her own hands and fully funded the record via a Pledge Music campaign in the matter of days. The record debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart and #14 on the Rap Chart. She just wrapped a summer of shows and is heading out on the road again this fall.
Also appearing: Night Riots, The Black & The White
This Halloween, Bacardi is sending 1,862 invited guests and competition winners to what is sure to be an epic music adventure.
Three chartered jets from London, New York and Los Angeles, plus scheduled flights from 22 cities around the world will transport guests to the five star, Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador resort in Puerto Rico where attendees can lounge in the pool with a rum drink while enjoying music from some of the world’s leading DJs. On Halloween night, Bacardi Triangle will turn into a Black Pearl themed Halloween party that will combine music with an immersive theater – “Think global DJs, living mermaids, poi performance artists, voodoo shacks, tribal food huts and more than a few surprises…”
The weekend will culminate with guests being whisked away to a private island in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle for live sets from Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar and Ellie Goulding.
“I have played in many incredible places across the globe – and I can’t wait to see if BACARDÍ Triangle is as amazing as it looks.” – Ellie Goulding
